I had read this book long ago and decided to read it again. It's a book of treats. One of the treats is "Love and Death," a story that takes up about a half-page/5.

“The Kingdom of the heavens may be likened to a king who made a marriage feast for his son. And he sent his slaves to call those invited to the marriage feast, but they were unwilling to come.” (Matthew3) Jesus introduces his illustration by mentioning “the Kingdom of the heavens.” Logically, then, the “king” must be Jehovah God.

In the book of Revelation, the apostle John hears (rather than sees) the conclusion of history and compares it to the sound of a great wedding feast—the marriage supper of the Lamb. This imagery of a wedding celebration depicts the believer’s intimate and everlasting fellowship with Jesus Christ, which begins at the end of the ages in the re-created paradise of.

This collection of stories written over a period of more than thirty shows the deep seriousness and astonishing versatility of Par Lagerkvist's imagination.

From the commonplace charm of the title story, to the searing futuristic satire of "The Children's Campaign, " to the disquieting fantasy of "The Lift That Went Down to Hell, " we see that Lagerkvist admits no settled boundaries /5(3).
